Kārlis Purgailis is the Chairman of the Management Board of CBL Asset Management and Chief Economist of Citadele Bank in Latvia. In addition, he serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of Citadele Group companies CBL Life and CBL Open Pension Fund. He has more than 25 years of experience in the financial industry, having held senior positions in asset management, treasury and risk management, investment management, financial markets, and macroeconomic analysis at several leading Latvian banks.
Kārlis began his career in the financial sector in 2000 as a financial analyst at Parex Bank. He later held management positions in interbank trading, brokerage services, asset management, and portfolio management at the Mortgage and Land Bank of Latvia. Between 2009 and 2014, he led treasury and asset management functions at Latvijas Pasta Banka and GE Money Bank Latvia. He subsequently joined SEB Bank, where he was responsible for the development of investment and savings products.
Kārlis joined Citadele Group in 2015 as Head of Treasury at Citadele Bank. Since 2017, he has served as Chairman of the Management Board of CBL Asset Management, leading the company’s strategic development and investment management business. In his role as Chief Economist of Citadele Bank in Latvia, he regularly provides macroeconomic analysis and commentary on economic developments and trends in Latvia, the Baltics, and global markets.
Kārlis Purgailis holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Latvia and has completed additional executive education at INSEAD.
