Citadele Bank

Information on changes to the use of virtual payment cards

Published on

We would like to inform you of changes to the Citadele Bank product and service price list regarding virtual cards (MasterCard Virtual and Visa Virtual).

Figures show that virtual payment cards are used by only a small group of our clients. Therefore, from the 28th September this year, we will no longer issue new virtual cards, and from the 30th November, we will be ceasing our virtual payment card service.

With the development of new technologies, we have created and developed a wide range of modern and secure ways to pay online. All Citadele payment cards are linked with the “3D Secure” security system. This helps to prevent the possibility of fraud in online stores and guards both your money and your personal data. Therefore, from now on, we invite you to choose your most suitable Citadele payment card from the “Accounts and cards” section of our online bank to replace your virtual card; this can be linked to your existing virtual card account, or you can open a new account.

For your convenience, we have also developed our new mobile app. With the app, you can make payments quickly and conveniently, as well as manage your cards’ security settings:

  • allow internet purchases only when you need them;
  • set your cards’ operating boundaries - the Baltics, Europe or the World;
  • switch the ability to withdraw cash from an ATM on or off, etc.

Furthermore, depending on your smartphone model, you can now authorise and confirm payments using facial recognition (Face ID) or fingerprint (Touch ID) on the Citadele mobile app.
