In honour of the International Day for Differently Abled People, the travelling photo exhibition “You Are. You Can” was opened at Latvia’s Parliament, the Saeima, today. The exhibition features the Paralympic Games, and visitors to Parliament will be able to examine the exhibition throughout this week.
At the opening of the exhibition, the president of the Latvian Paralympic Committee, Daiga Dadzīte, spoke about the importance of the project: “Thanks to the activities of the ‘You Are. You Can’ movement, attitudes in society have changed significantly during just the past summer, particularly among young people. Without the boost which the social campaign provided, this would require many years of hard work.”
The “You Are. You Can” exhibition features 52 photographs by Juris Bērziņš-Soms, focusing on 15 different athletic events at this year’s London Paralympic Games. The travelling exhibition has been organised by the Citadele Bank in partnership with the Latvian Paralympic Committee as part of the “You Are. You Can” project. The exhibition was first opened at the Alfa shopping centre in Rīga on November 7, and until the end of next year, it will be presented at various locations in Rīga and throughout Latvia.
From December 11 to December 21, the exhibition will be hung near the main entrance of the Central Train Station in Rīga. During the Christmas season, from December 11 to December 21, it will be at the Olimpia shopping centre, after which it will move to the Zemgale Olympic Centre in Jelgava. Until the end of the year, other images featuring the Latvian team at the Paralympic Games will be available at the Citadele branch at Republikas Square 2A in Rīga.

You Can” project was the largest support movement for Latvian paralympians, and it was organised by the Citadele Bank so as to facilitate the development of paralympic sports in Latvia, to attract new and differently abled persons to sports, and to change public opinion about such people and what they can do.
